Energy-Saving Light Bulbs – Useful at Home or in the Office

Back in the day, energy-saving light bulbs came in one variety: fluorescent tubes. Every dad in the neighborhood had a workshop lit with them. They blinked, buzzed and took forever to fire up. They were banished to the basement because of the noise and the ugly blue light that made everything it touched look wan and spooky.

Today, CFL light bulbs and other energy-saving lighting sources are the standard for cost and eco-conscious consumers.

Today’s Premium Green Lighting Choices: More Than Just Energy Reducing CFL Light Bulbs

Modern compact fluorescent light bulbs, high-efficiency, mercury-free halogen lamps and LEDs offer home and small business owners legitimate options for reducing electricity use, pollution and waste, without sacrificing the versatility, dimmability or flattering light qualities of traditional incandescent bulbs.

There are energy-saving light bulbs for nearly every household application: exterior fixtures, table and floor lamps, ceiling fixtures (even ones on dimmer switches), and decorative fixtures such as chandeliers and sconces. In some instances, CFL light bulbs are the optimal choice. High-efficiency halogen lamps are a better fit in others. Premium quality LEDs, while expensive, can be a smart investment in some settings too. All three types are more efficient (yield more light per watt of electricity consumed) and longer-lasting than time-honored “Edison” bulbs.

Most importantly, energy-reducing light bulbs enable consumers to leverage one basic rule: the cheapest, cleanest kilowatt of electricity is the one that is never produced in the first place.
